The production of steel in blast furnaces results in a considerable amount of by-product gas (blast furnace gas, coke oven gas, basic oxygen furnace gas, etc.) that can be used as fuel to produce power or steam.
The gases can be recovered, filtered and burned in adapted gas turbines so that a considerable amount of the energy used for the blast furnace blower can be recovered to generate electrical power.
Furnace gas compression trains are necessary to increase the pressure up to the pressure required at the inlet of the gas turbine combustion system.
Axial Compressors: fixed or adjustable guide vanes
Centrifugal Compressor: barrel or split design
