Population growth in developing countries, political pressure and environmental concerns drive the current power generation market. An important part of that market are combined cycle power plants (CCPP). These are based on state-of-the-art gas turbines that offer an efficient low CO2-emission production of electric power at low specific investment costs and short start-up times.
Natural gas is the preferred fuel for CCPP applications. It is usually transported over long distances via pipelines from the reservoirs into regional distribution systems. Within these local pipeline grids, the gas pressure often does not meet the requirements of most large scale gas turbines. This gap is closed using fuel gas booster compressors supplied by MAN Diesel & Turbo. Depending on the suction and discharge conditions as well as volume flows, single to multi-stage integrally geared type gas compressors can be employed.
